About me

Tour Nr. 1: Vienna’s past and present

„Vienna’s streets are paved by culture – the ones of other cities by asphalt“ (Karl Kraus)

So the best way to explore Vienna is by foot.

I will take you on a leisurely walking tour starting with a circuit of The Ring with its prestigious monuments of the late Habsburg monarchy including the City Hall, the National Theatre and the Austrian Parliament building.

Then we will stroll leisurely to the very heart of the City, passing by the Imperial Palace, the residence of the Habsburgs, and arriving at St. Stephan’s Cathedral, the main landmark of city of Vienna. Our walk will help orientate you while exploring some of the unique places and sites of the city including Mozart’s House, some lovely old courtyards and the elegant Coffee Houses „Demel“ and „Landmann“ – Freud’s favourite one.

Within the downtown area there are several neighbourhoods each with its own flavour. I will share with you some digestible pieces of the rich history of the city and also some facts about the present Vienna, which has been elected for the 4th time to be „the most liveable city „on this planet (Mercer-Study, 2012).

Tour Nr. 2: Unesco’s world heritage site „Schönbrunn Palace“ without queuing up !

Discover the wonders Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburgs, without having to queue! I will make the reservation for you and your group. Just let me know what day and time you would like to visit this beautiful baroque Palace and I will make all the arrangements.

The Grand Tour, during which you will see the most of this beautiful building , will last for about an hour. We will walk leisurely through the palace and I will tell you about the people who lived there. Your questions are always welcome! You will see 40 state rooms including the Great Gallery, a master piece of High Baroque Style, before we move outside to walk through the very spectacular gardens.

Special highlight:

If you feeling energetic we can take a walk up to „Gloriette“ where you have a beautiful view of the City and the park. This walk takes about 30 minutes (each way). This can be done either before or after the inside visit of the castle. Maybe we would reward ourselves with a nice coffee and cake, since the Gloriette Memorial contains a very nice coffee house! Please note that coffee and cake has to be paid separately! (Approx. 10 EUR)

Instead of walking to Gloriette Hill we could visit the Carriage museum – The highlights of the Carriage Collection include the gilded „Imperial Carriage, “ the Golden Carousel Carriage of Maria Theresia, the Child’s Phaeton of Napoleon’s son, the Black Hearse of the Viennese court, the personal Landaulet of Empress Elisabeth and the only preserved Court Automobile of 1914. Entrance Fee: 6 EUR

Costs: 180 EUR
plus entrance fee to the palace: 11-13 EUR

More to taste:

  • Palace Belvedere – with a great view of the City combined with a ride on the Vienna metro to cross the Danube, see Vienna’s International Centre and Old Danube.
  • Museum of Fine Arts – for the Art lovers
  • Imperial Crypt – burial place of over 100 members of the Habsburg family, a truly unique place, though a bit spooky maybe…
